Kaymer strengthens star-studded field for Wentworth

Two-time Major Champion Martin Kaymer has confirmed he will be part of the world-class field for the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club from Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 May.

The 31 year old winner of the 2010 US PGA Championship and 2014 US Open will make his tenth appearance in the tournament and will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of his fellow German Bernhard Langer, who conquered the West Course three times, in 1987, 1993 and 1995.

Kaymer joins a stellar line-up for the first British European Tour event in 2016, which also boasts Major champions Justin Rose, Graeme McDowell and Danny Willett, Ryder Cup stars Thomas Bjørn, Luke Donald, Jamie Donaldson, Victor Dubuisson, Miguel Angel Jiménez and Lee Westwood, plus a host of rising stars including Andy Sullivan, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Thomas Pieters.

"It’s always a special week as it is played at a very famous, iconic venue that has a lot of history," said Kaymer, who has 11 European Tour titles to his name. "After my home country of Germany, the UK is probably my favourite place to play golf, and at Wentworth there are always great crowds creating a fantastic atmosphere.

"You can tell that the fans there really know their golf and appreciate when you do something well. There’s always a real buzz about the event and I’m looking forward to getting back there.

"I have a decent record at Wentworth but I’ve not yet been truly in contention to win there, so it would be nice to change that this year. My game is feeling good and a victory would be a great way to launch into what is going to be an extremely busy spell through the summer and autumn."

Kaymer will be making his tenth appearance in the BMW PGA Championship, and has finished in the top 20 in five of his previous nine starts, only once missing the cut.

The Düsseldorf man will be encouraged by a tied sixth place finish at Valderrama in Spain three weeks ago as he goes in search of his first regular European Tour win since the 2011 Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.

Kaymer’s clothing sponsor, HUGO BOSS, is an Official Partner of the BMW PGA Championship, and will be supporting the tournament’s Official Charity, Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens.

The sky blue ‘Paddy MK 2’ polo shirt from the BOSS Green Martin Kaymer collection will be worn by the man himself during the first round (Thursday 26 May) and will also be available to buy in the BOSS mobile store in the Championship Village throughout the week. All profits from the sale of this shirt, which is made from a soft, breathable cotton blend fabric, will be donated to the Official Charity.

Tickets to see Kaymer and the rest of the stellar field in action, you can purchase tickets at www.bmw-pga.com or by calling the ticket hotline on 01344 840550.
